LUTHERAN DISASTER RESPONSE
Sharing and Caring of those affected by a disaster has
become an important ministry for North Carolina Lutheran
Men in Mission (NCLMM).
Following disasters, many survivors struggle to pull
their lives back together. Losses, human and
possessions, result in a traumatic impact on their lives
as well as others in the impacted community.
 |
Significant financial support by Lutheran men,
congregations and individuals, allowed NCLMM to
purchase a 18 ft cargo trailer and equip it with
a wide range of salvage and construction
equipment. In 1995 NCLMM purchased a cargo box
truck to pull the trailer and added additional
salvage and construction equipment.
In 2005 NCLMM added a 16 ft. cargo trailer to
the ministry and located all salvage equipment
on the new trailer with the existing truck and
trailer designated as a contraction unit. |
Thrivent Financial Services for Lutherans also supported
the NCLMM disaster response ministry with several grants
in addition to providing the “wrapping” of the new
trailer at no cost to NCLMM.
Since inception of the NCLMM disaster response ministry,
the equipment has been used by Lutheran and other
denomination's volunteers in North Carolina, Louisiana,
Alabama and Mississippi. Following Hurricane Katrina,
the equipment was used for over two years while it was
located at Lutheran Disaster Reponses work sites in
Louisiana and Alabama.
